15 party games for adults

1. A quiz on the big screen

The best party game for a crowd, because everyone plays at once. Split into teams, put the quiz on the TV and let each team answer on a phone against the clock. Try a free general knowledge quiz, or a decade you all remember from the quiz packs.

2. Who's most likely to…

Read a prompt ("Who's most likely to be famous?") and everyone points on three. Fast, funny and perfect for mixing groups.

3. Two truths and a lie

Each player shares three facts about themselves and everyone votes on the lie. You'll learn more about your friends in ten minutes than in ten years.

4. Charades

Films, books, songs and TV shows, acted out in teams against a one-minute timer. Write the prompts in advance so nobody gets stuck.

5. Who am I?

A famous name on a sticky note on each forehead; ask yes-or-no questions to work out who you are. Works for any size of group.

6. Name that tune

Play the first few seconds of a song and race to name it. Pick a decade for a theme, or use the music rounds from our music quiz.

7. Emoji guess

Films, songs and phrases written in emoji. Show them on screen or pass them round on phones; first to shout the answer scores.

8. The hat game

Everyone writes names in a hat. Round one, describe them; round two, one word only; round three, act them out. The same names come back each round, so it gets funnier as it goes.

9. Never have I ever

Take turns to name something you've never done; anyone who has takes a sip. Keep it as tame or as cheeky as your crowd.

10. Minute to win it

Sixty-second challenges: stack plastic cups into a pyramid, move sweets with a straw, or get a biscuit from forehead to mouth with no hands.

11. Articulate-style describing

Describe as many words as you can in a minute without saying the word itself. Play in pairs and keep a running score.

12. Pictionary

Draw words against the clock on a big pad. Harder words for the confident artists, easier ones for everyone else.

13. Funny quiz round

Trick questions and brain-teasers ("How many animals did Moses take on the ark?") that catch out the know-it-alls. Our funny quiz questions are made for it.

14. Murder in the dark

Deal cards secretly: one murderer, one detective. Lights off, the murderer strikes with a tap on the shoulder, and the detective has to work out who did it.

15. Decades showdown

Split the room by the decade you grew up in and play a round on each: 80s, 90s, 2000s. Our decades quiz and decade packs make it easy.

Planning tip: open with an ice-breaker (2 or 3), play a couple of quick games while people arrive, and finish with a quiz on the TV so the whole party is playing at once.

Questions

What are good party games for adults?

The best ones get the whole room playing at once: a quiz in teams, charades, "Who’s most likely to", two truths and a lie, and anything with a timer. Mix one bigger game with a few quick ones.

What party games work for a big group?

A quiz scales to any size: split into teams and let each team answer on one phone. Up to 100 phones can join one of our live quizzes.

What games can we play indoors with no equipment?

Charades, "Who am I?", two truths and a lie, "Who’s most likely to" and a read-aloud quiz need nothing but a pen and paper.

How do we play a quiz on our phones?

Put the host screen on a TV or laptop, and everyone scans the QR code to join. Questions are timed, the fastest right answers score the most, and the leaderboard shows after every round.

How many games should we plan?

For an evening, plan three or four: an ice-breaker, one or two quick games, and a bigger game like a quiz to finish.
